En les dues \u00faltimes d\u00e8cades l&#8217;impacte de l&#8217;E2 ha transcendit a moltes altres funcions fisiol\u00f2giques, entre elles, l&#8217;home\u00f2stasi de la glucosa, incloent els seus efectes en les c\u00e8l\u00b7lules \u03b2 i \u03b1 del p\u00e0ncrees endocr\u00ed. L&#8217;E2 regula el contingut d&#8217;insulina i la seua secreci\u00f3 en resposta a la glucosa, i produeix l&#8217;efecte contrari en el cas de la c\u00e8l\u00b7lula-\u03b1 i la secreci\u00f3 de glucag\u00f3. Tamb\u00e9 protegeix la c\u00e8l\u00b7lula-\u03b2 de la mort cel\u00b7lular en resposta a est\u00edmuls apopt\u00f2tics i no es sap si fa el mateix en la c\u00e8l\u00b7lula-\u03b1. El paper del receptor d&#8217;estr\u00f2gens ER\u03b1 en la funci\u00f3 i la superviv\u00e8ncia de la c\u00e8l\u00b7lula-\u03b2 est\u00e0 relativament ben estudiat. No ocorre igual amb els altres dos receptors d&#8217;estr\u00f2gens, ER\u03b2 i GPER. La dissecci\u00f3 dels mecanismes d&#8217;acci\u00f3 de l&#8217;E2 a trav\u00e9s dels receptors d&#8217;estr\u00f2gens ER\u03b2 i GPER en el p\u00e0ncrees endocr\u00ed que proposem en aquest projecte, ens ajudaren a con\u00e8ixer millor les difer\u00e8ncies de sexe en l&#8217;home\u00f2stasi de la glucosa. Va obtenir el seu doctorat a la Universitat Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez i va realitzar una estada postdoctoral al Departament de Nutrici\u00f3 del Karolinska Institutet d&#8217;Estocolm (Su\u00e8cia) on va estudiar la fisiologia del receptor d&amp;#39;estr\u00f2gens ER\u03b2. Tamb\u00e9 va ser investigadora visitant al Center for Nuclear Receptors and Cell Signaling de Houston (EUA). Actualment \u00e9s professora de Nutrici\u00f3 i Bromatologia de la Universitat Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez d&#8217;Elx i investigadora principal de l&#8217;IDiBE. La seva investigaci\u00f3 se centra a entendre el paper que tenen els disruptius endocrins (EDC) en l&amp;#39;etiologia de la diabetis, l&#8217;obesitat i els trastorns metab\u00f2lics relacionats. El seu treball ha estat decisiu per vincular l&#8217;exposici\u00f3 a certs disruptors endocrins generalitzats com el bisfenol-A amb l&#8217;etiopatologia de la diabetis tipus 2. A m\u00e9s, est\u00e0 interessada en la fisiologia i les adaptacions metab\u00f2liques de les c\u00e8l\u00b7lules alfa i beta pancre\u00e0tiques durant l&amp;#39;embar\u00e0s. Est\u00e0 especialment centrada en la comprensi\u00f3 de les bases moleculars de la diabetis mellitus gestacional i la identificaci\u00f3 de vies de senyalitzaci\u00f3 alterades que condueixen al desenvolupament d&#8217;aquesta malaltia. Els seus estudis s&#8217;han centrat en entendre les alteracions, adaptacions i\/o fallades de les c\u00e8l\u00b7lules alfa i beta pancre\u00e0tiques en condicions fisiol\u00f2giques com l&#8217;embar\u00e0s i l&#8217;envelliment, aix\u00ed com en condicions patol\u00f2giques com l&#8217;obesitat i la diabetis. La seva investigaci\u00f3 en els darrers anys ha contribu\u00eft principalment a una millor comprensi\u00f3 de la biologia de les c\u00e8l\u00b7lules alfa pancre\u00e0tiques en salut i malaltia, i la seva contribuci\u00f3 a la diabetis. in the ovary, which is traditionally involved in sexual differentiation, puberty and reproduction. In the last two decades the impact of E2 has transcended to many other physiological functions including its effects on the \u03b2- and \u03b1-cells of the endocrine pancreas. E2 regulates insulin content and its secretion in response to glucose, and produces the opposite effect on \u03b1-cell and glucagon secretion.
